For a mom looking to start a new fitness routine or create a healthy lifestyle, the two main obstacles are time and energy.
I’ve written already on how to be more efficient with your time and talked about how you can squeeze it in when you can, but to even get there you need E.N.E.R.G.Y.
Of course, the first thing to address regarding energy is sleep, but if you are like many moms how much sleep you are getting is out of your control. However, if you aren’t getting as much sleep as you could be getting (honestly), you really should check yourself!
Here are 3 things you can control that will help you get your energy back.
(prefer to watch/listen instead of reading? I got you)
No really. I know you have heard it before, but how many days in a row can you honestly tell me that you have done it CONSISTENTLY?
I agree that as moms we are legit run ragged all day long, but if you aren’t doing this you are straight setting yourself up for failure at the get-go.
Just a 2% decrease in hydration can cause a decrease in blood flow to your muscles and brain.
That decrease in blood flow results in headaches, fatigue, inability to concentrate...aka. the symptoms of mom brain and exhaustion.
Sometimes it’s the littlest things that can make all the difference!
If you aren’t CONSISTENTLY drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water daily, the first thing you need to do is create the habit of consistent hydration.
Fuel your body.
What to lose weight? Just eat less right?? WRONG (well, right but you are probably doing it wrong...)
First and foremost we need to make sure we are fueling our bodies. Food is fuel!
Calories are a scientific measurement of energy.
If you aren’t eating enough you won’t have energy. Period.
You need to fuel your body with balanced, properly portioned meals.
More Good Fats
Protein helps you feel fuller longer. It helps build your muscles (paired with a good workout routine). When you build more lean muscles, you increase your metabolism…
Good fats help balance your hormones and your insulin response.
Veggies fill you up without providing a lot of calories. They provide fiber to your diet and vital nutrients like vitamins and minerals.
Yes, I said MORE!
When you focus on adding more of these you will be in more control of what you eat throughout the day.
You will FEEL good!
You will have more energy!
You will create a sustainable, healthy lifestyle!
**please note I’m not saying cut carbs, just focus on adding these and proper portions**

Exercise and moving your body gives you energy!
The blood flowing and your heart pumping breathe life into your body.
I’m not saying go out and do an intense CrossFit type workout for an hour if you haven’t workout in months or years. Meet yourself where you are. Start with what you know you can do and build from there.
Step 1: Decide on what you know you can do everyday.
Step 2: Commit to doing it.
Even if it is a five minute walk around the block. If you feel like that is the something that you can do everyday, commit to it.
You will create:
Let me know right now. What is your commitment? Five minutes around the block? A ten-minute walk after dinner each day?
What can you do every day? What small thing can you do every day to create a consistent habit?
If you are thinking, “Alison these are all the things I want to do but need the energy to do first,” I hate to break it to you, it doesn’t work that way.
Bottom line, if you are waiting to have the energy to take care of yourself...
It ain't ever going to happen!
You need to take care of yourself so that you can have more energy!
Tell me! Tell me!
