Summer is in full swing and for many of us it means family trips to the beach….and if you are anything like me that means eating like crap and consuming a few too many adult beverages. The most frustrating part of that is, after all that hard work and healthy choice you’ve been making the rest of the year, the bloat that often comes with the over indulgence leaves you feeling uncomfortable in your skin again. It just doesn’t seem fair.
The good news?
There are a few things you can to do try to minimize the effect:
1: Drink plenty of water. Shoot for ⅔ your body weight in ounces of water each day. If you are drinking adult beverages (aka. mommy’s juice) make a deal with yourself: for every beer, glasses of wine, or mixed drink you consume promise to drink 8-12 oz of water before you have another. This will keep you hydrated….and slow you down ;)
2: First thing each morning do something active. Shoot for 20 - 30 minutes of moderate to intense exercise. Go for a brisk walk, run, bike or swim. Try some of my HIIT workouts that are perfect for traveling.
3: Try a gentle detox tea. Use one of the everyday detox teas (Yogi Detox Tea or Traditional Medicinals EveryDay Detox NOT the intense 7-14 day detox teas) . These teas promote healthy liver and kidney function. I admit, I’ve always been skeptical of this approach. However, it was recommended to me a few months ago by someone I trust and I have really noticed a difference.
PS. I also get this bloated feeling with my monthly visit from Aunt Flo. All of these tips will help with that as well. As mentioned above, be proactive. A few days before you know it’s start working on these three things to prepare your body.
PPS. No matter how you feel don’t miss out. Love yourself. Put that suit on and go make memories with your babies. You will never get these moments back!
