Right here, right now we are going to put an end to the idea that when you're a mom and you’re trying to get fit and healthy you have to start making separate meals for you and the rest of your family. Talk about wasting time and energy!
The truth is, and I’m sure you know this, everyone in your family will benefit from healthy balanced meals… but that’s really not even the point I’m trying to make.
As a mom, when you are busy with everything else, the last thing you need is to add one more thing to your day.
Moms! We need simple! Making two different dinners is definitely not that!
The best and simplest tool that I’ve found is my Balanced Meals for Busy Moms Cheat Sheet. It’s a simple, repeatable formula that can be applied to any meal, even Thanksgiving dinner (although I’m a huge proponent of throwing on some fat pants and enjoying the day).
All you need to do pick a protein, make sure you have good fat source, choose your carbs and pile on the veggies.
It really is simple!
Here’s an example of how we apply this in our family:
My son LOVE mac n’ cheese, I mean what kid doesn’t?!? He would eat it everyday if we let him… and we, as a family, in all honesty, eat it at least once per week.
Good ol’ boxed mac n’ cheese. While yes, I’m careful to choose the brands made with real cheese and no artificial coloring/flavoring, we eat boxed mac n’ cheese on the regular!
Mac n’ cheese is a carbohydrate source (the pasta) and a fat source (the cheese). Therefore all we have to do is serve it with a lean protein source (grilled chicken breast, for example) and pile on the veggies (our go to for this particular meal is broccoli- good old trees n’ cheese).
Viola! We have a balanced healthy meal that EVERYONE eats, and enjoys!
